Sarah Kubic - Maid of Honor
When my brother Chris told me he was moving back home with his new fiancée, I was thrilled. Not only was I excited to have my big brother back in West Virginia, but I was also going to finally meet Sheila, whom I had heard so much about. Sheila and I have now known each other for seven years, four of which we’ve been next-door neighbors.
It didn’t take long for us to grow close. Through our shared love of crafts, cats, and games, Sheila quickly became like a sister to me. She encouraged me throughout my journey to earn my master’s degree. She continues to support me when life as a second-grade teacher gets hectic. And no matter how long we go without talking, we always pick up right where we left off.
I’m so grateful for our friendship and even more grateful to stand by her side on this special day.
Tyler Bourdo - Best Man
I met Kubic at Trine, where we were both civil engineering students and had many classes together. We later both joined Phi Kap and eventually found ourselves in Executive Suite Apartment 3, helping run the fraternity.
Kubic got me into Minecraft, and I remember our senior year—on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we both only had an 8 a.m. class and nothing else that day. So we’d come back and play Minecraft for the rest of the day.
Schaelin (Schae) Barnett - Bridesmaid
Sheila and I started working together in 2020. If you know anything about mental health, you know it’s a very hard job. Sheila reached out after we both had a difficult day and asked if I wanted to get lunch at Panera between clients. I’m never going to turn down Panera.
We became quick friends during that lunch, and we’ve been friends ever since. We’re no longer co-workers, but we will always be friends. I now work at a youth inpatient mental health facility, and Sheila worked hard to become a therapist.
Some of my favorite memories are of Sheila always inviting me to family cookouts. Sheila and Chris’s family welcomed me as one of their own, and that just reflects the kind of person Sheila is—always warm and welcoming.
I’m so honored to have been asked to be a bridesmaid, and I can’t wait to be a part of their big day.
Peter Ryan Kubic - Groomsman
As the brother of the groom, my first time meeting Sheila was when I helped them move out of their apartment in Indy and head east to West Virginia. Now, anyone who’s ever helped someone move knows—that’s either where friendships are made… or seriously tested. Luckily, Sheila passed the test.
Chris knows a little too much for his own good, and Sheila always tells it like it is—which, honestly, is probably exactly what he needs.
But in all seriousness, from that first day, it was clear how much they care about each other. They balance each other out in the best way, and you can see how happy they make one another.
They truly are a match made in heaven.
Kelley Hulse - Bridesmaid
Affectionately known as the Meredith to Sheila’s Cristina, I met Sheila in the Theatre Department while we both attended Ball State University. I love cats, D&D, and video games, though I have not had as much time for these hobbies since the arrival of my first child, Aiden. When I am not answering my son’s beck and call, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Sean, our cats, Daenerys Targaryen and Jinora, and our dogs, Howl and Naga.
Some of my favorite memories with Sheila include taking a shot on graduation day (pictured; it was nasty), being roommates during and after graduation, her encouraging me to join the staff of the children’s theatre she loves so much, and, of course, her spoiling the death of Derek Shepherd in Grey’s Anatomy while we were visiting the Science Center in St. Louis.
Although I was a little hesitant about Chris when Sheila first introduced him to me, he quickly grew on me, and I could not be happier for them. I am so excited to celebrate them on their big day together.
Devin Wolf - Groomsman
My name is Devin Wolf. I’m a single father of 2 beautiful puppies. I’m an engineer in the steel industry. I love to be social and make memories. In my free time you will find me on the lake or on the sand volleyball courts. Chris and I became really good friends when I ended up living in the same apartment for the summer after my sophomore year of college. His goofy personality and mine led to a lot of dysfunctional funny memories. We might as well of paid the local bars utility bills with the number of hours we spent playing pool.
Meg Crosier - Bridesmaid
I met Sheila in college at Ball State University, where we were both in the theatre department. We became friends pretty quickly after realizing we had the same Harry Potter tattoo, Potterhead's unite! We spent so much time together in the costume shop, talking, laughing, and surviving all the chaos that comes with theatre life.
After college, I visited her in Indianapolis a few times, and every trip reminded me how easy it is to be around her. One of my favorite memories is when she came back to Ball State to watch me graduate and then helped me move back home. It meant so much to have her there.
These days, I am a teacher living in Lansing, Michigan, and I have been here just over a year. I have two cats who are basically my whole life. Even with all the changes and distance, Sheila has remained one of my closest friends, and I am so excited and honored to be part of her wedding.
Jacob Ullom - Groomsman
I met Kubic when I was offered the chance to join Phi Kap at Trine University, and we ended up having a few classes together as well. From the start, Kubic was someone you could always count on—whether it was for a good laugh, a late-night conversation, or just someone to hang out with. He wasn’t just a great person to be around in college—he was a great friend.
Some of my favorite memories are the weekends we’d all spend together at the house—no real plans, just hanging out, laughing, and enjoying the moment. Those are the times you don’t realize you’ll miss until they’re gone, and I’m really grateful I got to share them with him.
Kubic, I’m proud to call you my friend.
Lorri Wilson - Mother of the Bride
I had Sheila on July 2, 1993, twelve days after she was due. I guess you could say she has always chosen if and when she wants to do things, and not much has changed since then.
We are from Indiana, where I still live. Some people would say I am a workaholic, but I truly love what I do managing three liquor stores. If you need booze, I am your gal!
It was not easy raising two kids seven years apart, but we made it work. My son was the rambunctious one, while Sheila was the explorer. Her imagination, creativity, confidence, humor, curiosity, and drive have made her into a powerhouse of a woman whom I am more and more proud of every day. I beam with pride for my child, and I am never afraid to share her accomplishments.
When I first met Chris, I think I loved him before Sheila did. He is a wonderful man who loves my daughter deeply, and that means everything to me.
I could not be happier for the two of them, and I am so happy to finally be here celebrating them.
Richard Medcalf - Father of the Bride
My name is Richard and I was born and raised in Indiana. I live on a small farm with my Fiancée Rene and my youngest son, Nehemiah. I love to build things around the farm like our goat bridge and massive bonfires when I'm cleaning up the branches and brush. I might have accidently caught a garage on fire in the process but it was just a little bit on fire for a very short amount of time. Some of my favorite memories of Sheila is the pride I had when she graduated college (both undergrad and graduate). Some more favorite moments in our relationships is talking about anything. She always had an open mind, open heart, and curiosity for learning. It's no surprise she chose a good guy like Chris. Congrats you two, I'll see you on the dance floor!
Lori Kubic - Mother of the Groom
Like Chris's father, Pete, I went to Trine University, where I played volleyball, majored in mathematics, and earned a Hall of Fame academic achievement award.
While at Trine, I met Pete. We married and moved to West Virginia, where I quickly found a new family among the Kubics and embraced the laughter and love of a big family. We built our home on land gifted by his parents, and I was even part of the crew that poured the basement walls.
Soon after, we started our family—welcoming Christopher, then Sarah and Peter Ryan, along with many golden retrievers and cats over the years.
I spent the early part of my career commuting to Washington, D.C., before joining Kubic Construction, where I later earned my accounting degree and passed the CPA exam. I eventually transitioned into public accounting, where I still work today.
I am so happy Chris and Sheila are building a life together, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for them. I love you both.
Pete Kubic - Father of the Groom
Chris is my firstborn. He’s always been smart. As a kid, we used to call him Megamind because if he didn’t know the answer, he was going to convince you he did.
Just like my dad, his mother, and me, Chris followed our legacy and went to our alma mater, Trine. I couldn’t have been more proud—the day he got accepted, the day I dropped him off, the day he graduated, the day he found a great girl, the day he became a Professional Engineer, the day he came home, and now, as he’s on his way to becoming a husband.
He’s become a great man. I’m glad I was, and still am, a part of it.
Congrats, son.
Haislee Kubic - Flower Girl
I’m Haislee. Uncle Chris is my daddy’s brother. My favorite thing to do when I’ve had a rough day is go next door to Uncle Chris and Aunt Sheila’s house and get Babybel cheese.
When I spend time with them, we get to play with Legos, makeup, and do arts and crafts. They always make me feel happy and special, and I love being with them.
I’m so excited for them to get married and for me to be the flower girl. I can’t wait to wear my pretty dress and walk down the aisle for them. I love you, Uncle Chris and Aunt Sheila!
